Sōya (PL107) preserved in Tokyo, photographed in 2006

The preserved icebreaker Sōya (PL107), photographed at the Museum of Maritime Science in Tokyo on 25 November 2006. The cited scholarly account connects the reported 1958 Antarctic Godzilla story with Sōya’s crew. This later museum photograph identifies the vessel; it is not a photograph of the reported creature or the alleged encounter.

A museum photograph taken decades after the reported sighting, in Tokyo rather than Antarctica. The vessel’s later configuration and appearance should not be read as documentation of its 1958 state. It provides context for the specifically named icebreaker, not corroboration of the cryptid account.
