Conspiracy

Evidence status

No verified evidence

The story is documented in extremist UFO literature, not validated engineering records.

Editorial assessment of this proposition; not a numeric confidence score.

Claim or proposition being examined

Escaped Nazis manufactured advanced flying saucers beneath Antarctica.

Limitations

Contextualize neo-Nazi origins without endorsing or aestheticizing them.

Scope of catalog verification

Source existence and described claim checked via web search/excerpts; not independent validation of alleged event.

Catalog review date reported: 2026-10-28. This is inherited catalog metadata, not a new verification of the linked source.

Passat and Boreas, DAE flight I, 20 January 1939

Historical expedition context—not evidence of a flying-saucer industry. This German Antarctic Expedition airphoto, image 1/101, is catalogued as Passat und Boreas, taken during Bildflug I on 20 January 1939. It documents the actual aerial survey, not a factory, secret base or unusual aircraft.

Ritscher, Alfred (1942): List of metadata and links to 558 airphotos from DAE. PANGAEA, doi:10.1594/PANGAEA.896262. Original photographs: Archive of German Polar Research (AGPR), Alfred Wegener Institute. CC BY 4.0. Individual camera operator is not identified in the dataset; Ritscher is the cited dataset/report author, not asserted photographer.

No source supports associating the depicted location with Hitler, a shrine or a UFO facility. Coordinates are retained as catalogued and should not be treated as precise aircraft/exposure positions. These historical landscape names do not identify alleged secret sites.

Image rights and evidence limits

CC BY 4.0, explicitly assigned to individual PANGAEA datasets 896262 and 896202. PANGAEA Terms §5.2 includes images as research contents; §6.2 distinguishes CC 0 metadata from CC BY data. Its Binary Objects guide says images are archived as linked files, matching these hosted image-data rows. Thus this is the data-image licence, not a metadata-only licence. Parent publication series 896264 is separately CC BY-NC-SA 4.0; these images are reproduced under the more specific individual dataset licences and does not clear other series materials or the whole report.

Image existence does not prove a linked claim. Consult image-specific captions and reuse conditions.

Sources and what they support

Links document the record, the claim’s circulation, an assessment, or reuse terms as labeled. A source link is not automatically corroboration.
