Scope of evidence
The record establishes artifact provenance, not modern speculative Antarctic claims.

Ponting’s published frontispiece, The Terra Nova Ice-bound. It documents the same expedition vessel in ice from a different angle, not the broadside exposure catalogued by SPRI as the first ice stoppage on 11 December 1910. No exact date or identity of the ice-stoppage event is inferred for this alternate photograph.
Herbert G. Ponting, The Great White South (New York: R. M. McBride & Co., 1922). Library of Congress scan via Internet Archive. Public domain.
This is a different published exposure, not the catalogued SPRI photograph. The target photograph’s exact date is not established for this alternate. The SPRI image is linked separately and not reproduced. Frontispiece; original printed caption refers to text p. 38.

Image rights and evidence limits
Public domain. Library of Congress item 23026514 explicitly states this digitized book is free to use and reuse; matching Internet Archive metadata identifies the LOC scan and reports no known copyright restrictions. The selected photographs were published in 1922; photographer Herbert G. Ponting died in 1935. This clearance applies to the independent historical book scan, not to SPRI digitizations.
Image existence does not prove a linked claim. Consult image-specific captions and reuse conditions.
