Scope of evidence
Evidence of this cataloged artifact, not evidence of modern speculative Antarctic claims.

The Arched Rock, Christmas Harbour, from Ross’s 1847 expedition narrative. This published wood engraving depicts a specific landmark at the same Kerguelen harbour visited in 1840. It is a different medium and work—not a scan of John Edward Davis’s watercolor PAF0587, and no derivation from that particular watercolor is asserted.
Joseph Dayman (Christmas Harbour views credited in Ross’s introduction), engraved by Samuel Williams; James Clark Ross, A Voyage of Discovery and Research in the Southern and Antarctic Regions (London: John Murray, 1847), vol. 1, chapter IV headpiece. University of Toronto, Robarts Library scan via Internet Archive. Public domain.
Related scene context only. Different artist and view may be involved. The catalogued RMG watercolor is linked separately and not reproduced.
